Lecture:
What actually has to happen before your morning coffee reaches your cup?
Follow a coffee bean from a ripe fruit on a tree through harvesting, fermentation and processing, buying and selling, roasting, and finally brewing. Along the way, discover how decisions made by farmers, processors, buyers, roasters, and baristas can completely change what you taste—and what your coffee costs.
We’ll explore why some coffees taste fruity and bright while others taste chocolatey and rich, what terms like specialty, natural, washed, single origin, and direct trade really mean, and whether a higher price actually means better coffee.
We’ll also look behind the label: Who grew your coffee? How much can you really know about where it came from? What makes coffee “ethical”? And how can you tell whether those sustainability claims are meaningful or mostly marketing?
By the end, you’ll know how to choose better coffee for your own taste, recognize quality, ask better questions, and understand the incredible amount of work behind something most of us drink every day.
Come curious. Leave never looking at a cup of coffee quite the same way again.
