Cosmolocal Futures Exhibition: Chiang Mai 2040

Chiang Mai belongs to whoever shows up for it consistently — the people who live here, leave and come back, do the unglamorous daily work of caring for the place. That's the starting premise. The harder question is what happens as more people arrive from elsewhere: does belonging stay something you inherit, or can it become something you build together, without flattening what made the place distinct in the first place? Cosmo Local CNX exists to test that.

This exhibition is the output of Nomad Futures Lab, a coliving research and prototyping track part of Cosmo Local CNX where participants spent weeks in Chiang Mai working through exactly this collision between newcomers and locals turned into stories, artifacts, and half-formed futures for the city. You'll see what people learned, who they met, and what they now think Chiang Mai could become.

One thread runs through it directly: what digital nomads actually do to the places they pass through, and how you keep that impact from quietly working against the communities who never left. There's no clean answer here, which is sort of the point.

The centerpiece is Dreamers of Wat Ket where our team went into the Wat Ket neighborhood and asked longtime residents and digital nomads the same question: what do you actually want this place to become? The exhibition is where those answers sit side by side.
