Daniel Schlagwein is Professor at Chulalongkorn University's Sasin School of Management and The University of Sydney Business School, and one of the researchers who turned digital nomadism from a lifestyle blog category into a field of study. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed papers on digital work, and he is joint Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information Technology.
His research has not stayed in journals. He advised on Thailand's 2024 destination visa, the DTV, and co-authored "Assessing the Impacts of Digital Nomadism on Local Communities: The Case of Chiang Mai, Thailand", the study that put the question in front of the Thai government in the first place.
Which makes Chiang Mai an unusually pointed place to hear him. The city is one of the most studied nomad destinations on earth, and the people in the room are the subject matter.
